We have a local ownCloud server. So the local traffic does not get routed over the internet (which really slows things down) we run out own DNS servers. They have the flowing mapping.

192.168.0.25 cloud.ourdowani.com # local owncloud server

This mean that on our local network in you ping cloud.ourdowani.com it resolves to 192.168.0.25.

I am wondering if there are any routers that would allow us to do this so we don't have to run our own DNS.

We are in the UK and use BT Infinity whits is VDSL. We also use wireless/VPN on the router so ideally the router will have these facilities. It would be nice to have these facilities on the new router.

ubiquiti edge router can do this but i personally have never actually done it. You likely will have to leave the current router as a modem or maybe even run router behind router. Having a vdsl modem in the box greatly reduces the selection of devices
Well. There is two different types of DNS. WAN and LAN DNS.

Most routers will allow you to enter the ISP provided DNS for WAN and on the LAN setup, you can simple enable DNS locally and use the router it's self to provide DNS internally.

I'm alittle confused about your statement as you mention an IP address of the OwnCloud server, not a DNS entry...

I really doubt your connect speed issues is related to DNS or the IP subnets. (unless you have some none standard configure were it is going out and back into the network) If you are on the 192.168.0.x subnet and connecting directly to it via LAN. Then, it is going through the switch, not the router (unless the server and pc is plugged straight into the router).

Now if you are looking for a router that can do VPNing and local DNS etc... I would suggest a business grade firewall like a Watchguard or a Sonicwall. They come with those features. You could also make your own PFSense box and do the same thing.

Local DNS is basically on every router ever. VPN is another story.

Can you clarify your statement?

P.S.
If it is as I described. I would troubleshoot your OwnCloud server, switch and cabling between the PC and the Host server.

What I am saying is we want to setup the router so it does not do a DNS lookup on its upstream DNS server for cloud.ourdowani.com but instead resolves it to the address 192.168.0.25. This is how we have our DNSes set up. If we don't do this it resolves to the actual address of the domain and all the traffic seems to get router via the internet and we get internet speeds not local ones. But yes, we are looking for a business/enterprise, not a domestic router. we use dmsmasq and have the above in our hosts file. It works like a dream.
