My PC is somehow using up all the RAM even though it shouldn't be. It will be when using 2-3 Adobe applications like Photoshop and Illustrator for a while and while having around 10 IE tabs open.

My old laptop was doing better than this computer so it doesn't make sense.

I have screenshots of memory usage right after startup and with those apps open but idk how to attach them here. It keeps asking for a url.

I just opened up Photoshop to save those screen shots and it took up about 4gb of ram. Way too much I believe.

Also I think IE takes up .2 GB per tab at lease (some .4 GB). Also seems like too much.

Can someone explain how to attach screenshots here please?

Umm.. yeah that sounds about right for 16GB. you should dial back the multitasking a bit those are RAM intensive applications.

I don't have a choice. I have to use multiple applications in my job (graphic designer). What doesn't make sense though is how my laptop from 2011 which I think only has 8GB RAM is outperforming this new computer which is better in every way.

A couple things open in Photoshop completely fills up my laptop w/ 8 GB. Are you doing the exact same tasks on both?

Really?
Ya I've had Photoshop, illustrator, and InDesign open all at the same time before. I'll check my laptop tomorrow to see how much ram it has but I'm 90% sure it's 8

Update:
Ok so my laptop has 8GB ram. After startup it has 2.7/8GB in use whereas my new PC has about 3.9 in use I think.
Photoshop on my laptop takes up 3.8 GB commited memory (2.4 working), while on PC it takes up 3.4GB (1.0 working) with same file size open.
I opened Illustrator on each and it added .4 - .5 GB to committed and working memory.
Then I opened about the same amount of tabs on each (Chrome seems to be more efficient in RAM usage than IE)

So now my laptop has 6.8 GB in use (9.4/17 committed) and my PC has 7.5 in use (11.3/15.9 committed). The difference doesn't seem to be large but my PC can still run out of RAM somehow. 16GB should be more than enough right?

What OS are you running on each system? Because that can vastly change RAM usage. Windows 10 for example uses a crazy amount of RAM at times. I recently had some of my DIMMs go bad on my Corsair 16GB kit so i only had one 4GB stick and i was ending up with 80-90% usage with just Windows 10 and 2-3 Firefox tabs open!

Also like mentioned above, the workload being ran on your editing software REALLY matters in determining if your RAM usage is too high. Especially if you are using RAM hog programs like Adobe After Effects (although you can actually manually assign RAM per CPU core etc.. in AE. So if you have 16GB RAM and a quad core i7 with hyperthreading then you can tell it to not use more than 1GB per core and it will only use 8GB max (since it factors in virtual threads as well)

I am using Windows 10 and ya mine uses 4 GB right after startup with nothing open.

Ya I believe you but should it be filling 16 entire GB of ram? Compare it to my laptop which can handle the same workload with only 8 GB.
