Can Dust make a PSU fan make noise?

I have a new PSU and after a couple of months the fan has started to make a noise.

I was wondering if this could be because of dust? The PSU is otherwise working fine.

It could if it's very dusty , but in normal conditions in 2 months , shouldn't be an issue. What make and model?

Sometimes, most often cheap PSU fans just get a worn bearing and die outright.

like a high pitched squeaking noise BTW. EVGA Gold G2. Its not a very dusty environment tbh but maybe somehow the dust got in I am wondering.

That's Coil Whine , not caused by dust. Usually not an issue , but can annoy you if it's loud.

Agreed, I return PSUs with coil whine because in this day and age, there's no reason for it. But it's not actually broken.

Ah I see. Tbh I thought it was the fan because it stops when eco mode is turned on (i.e. fan is off). Its also repetitive as if caused by the rotation of the fan. it is an annoying noise for sure, I cant focus on what I am doing when its on.

If you smoke or cook in a area where a PC is that can cause Dust to collect on the Fans and decrease output while increasing load which will eventually kill the fan. Excessive noise from a fan can be bearings going bad or warpage on bearlingless versions both will eventually kill it. When fans start to make noise I replace them for the shear fact noise is annoying and fans are cheap.

PSU quality has nothing to do with FAN quality I've pulled cheap fans out of expensive power supplies and good fans out of cheap power supplies. Power suppy brands are misleading as a majority of them are made at few select factories overseas which pull common parts like fans from the same vendors.

EVGA recommended I dont take it apart as it is dangerous and it would void my warranty. It is in a bedroom and not near any cooking areas.

Good advice not to take it apart. Even when unplugged, the capacitors contain high voltage, which can be dangerous to someone who doesn't know how to properly discharge them. I would keep using it for a while to see if the noise gets worse, and if it does return it before the warranty expires.

Ok. Thanks for all the answers. Having listened to some coil whine youtube videos, I think this doesn't sound like that, more like a misaligned fan or something.

I believe the warranty is 10 years long so I am good for another 9 years and then some (if I had decided to wait) but as I say its just one of those noises that you could never do any work with that going on.

don't put up with it, get a replacement. Having a spare PSU is a good thing, it's the most often failed component.

I will send it back but they will send me this one or a different one I am sure. It is just a pain to remove all the leads and then I will be without a computer for a little while.
