I Want A Micro ATX Power Supply!

Tomshardware.com is the place to be for anything computing, and computer hardware. The best web site out there on the Internet for hardware, and software, too. However, I have searched in the Power Supply Units categories, and have not found anything that has been tested, reviewed, and written about that is what is normally referred to a Micro ATX power supply unit! I read an answer that there is PSU1, PSU2; something to that description some time ago. Anyhow the regular ATX size seems to be the only very popular format. Recently my Sony VAIO desktop computer of 2003, that was running on Windows XP originally, updated to Service Pack 3; then I upgraded it to Windows 7 Home edition, cannot be turned on. My Sony desktop is now at the shop.

Before my trip to the repair shop I tried to install a new Antec 380 watt, 80 plus bronze PSU that I bought from 2010. To my surprise the Antec 380 watt 80+ bronze power supply did not fit. It did not fit because the cage, as I call it, is smaller (as is the original power supply, an NMB of 268.9 watts) than the upgraded power supply. The Antec 380W PSU is larger than the space provided within the design of the computer case.

Therefore, the new power supply was bought (as a replacement) as a long eventuality to upgrade my system. I should not have waited so long. However, I am certain that it is mainly the fault of the original power supply that is the problem. By the way, the original Seagate 80GB hard drive was removed, and is now being used as an external back-up hard drive. I had an internal Maxtor 200GB hard disk drive installed in December of 2005. Since a new hard disk drive was installed even a long time ago, whereby the computer was not used as much, I mention it because I doubt that the Maxtor HDD is much at fault. For now I am using an Acer V3 laptop computer (of 2013) running on Windows 10. My desktop operates on Windows 7, as I said.

Therefore, I sent my desktop computer at a Computer store, repair centre. Presently, the technician said that he is going to perform a diagnostic test on this desktop computer, to discover whether it is the power supply or the motherboard that is at fault. So far, I have waited for over a week; he said it would take a couple of days to work on it. No answer so far. Anyhow, to make a very long question short, what I want to essentially know is what Micro ATX power supply to best fit my desktop computer that is of good quality, high performance, at around 400 watts, and is 80 plus bronze preferably. Thank you for any advise, and your expert opinions.

Sincerely,

First off, add some space inside your wall of text so that anyone who reads it doesn't hurt their eyes nor lost track reading a line.

Also, there are no "micro ATX" PSUs made. That Antec 380W that you bought is ATX PS/2 PSU (aka standard ATX PSU). But since it was too big for your PC, you'll most likely need a SFX PSU which is smaller and also popular. Though, to know for sure, measure your old PSU dimensions and look up from here in which category it belongs,

If it's a SFX PSU that you need then i suggest you go for Corsair SF450,

The power supplies that are the same shape as the standard ATX box but smaller are typically SFX form factor. I can't tell you which one you need without knowing the model of PC, but if you do need SFX, there is an abundance of quality options from manufacturers such as Silverstone and Corsair.

Thank you very much, Aeacus. You have given me plenty of advice, and information. Yes, you are right about my writing; I must make a couple of more paragraphs when explaining my technical questions, and problems.
