Hi. I'm quite new in overclocking so i was wondering if I could find some help.

I'm looking to buy a new set of RAM 2x8gb DDR3 2133 or 2400mhz. My current set is corsair vengeance pro ddr3 2x4gb 1600mhz and my mobo is the Gigabyte GA Z87X D3H, so I never needed overclocking to be honest.

To cater for the new RAM, should I just go into BIOS, enable xmp and increase the memory multiplier to the desired amount? Or should I also overclock the cpu first?

Solution
In deciding the best RAM for your MB, It's best to consult with the MB QVL as those listed have been tested. Although the MB supports up to 32GB and up to 3000MHz frequency, Anything above 1600MHz is considered OC RAM and not guaranteed to work at their rated speed out of the box.
It also depends on the CPU you are using so for better advice, List the CPU.?

Here is the QVL to download: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z87X-D3H-rev-1x#support-doc

If the CPU does not officially support the OC RAM you choose then Bios changes are required to get them to their rated speed. If you have no Overclocking or Bios experience then I recommend a kit of RAM at what the CPU will support.

Thanks. My cpu is the intel i7 4770k 3.5ghz. Not the newest but quite capable for overclocking.

Would there be any noticeable difference while gaming between 1600 and 2133mhz?

The i7-4770K has official support for DDR3-1333/1600MHz RAM so 2133MHz is OC RAM.
It will therefore depend on the chips IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) if indeed you can reach 2133MHz. Not a great deal of difference in gaming FPS from 1600MHz. If you have a need for OC RAM then give them a try (Choose from the QVL) and make sure you can return them if you have issues.
