Hello,

I have an old computer which I recently formatted and I'm not using. I'm thinking about buying a GTX 1070 Ti to only mine cryptocurrency 24/7 but I'm not sure if this old folk will be able to run it. The PSU is a Tacens Radix III 520W Smart. Do you think it will be enough? If not, could it run a 1070 or 1060? Should I check other specs on my computer before buying this card?

Thanks!

A single gtx1070ti won't return enough to make the investment worth it. A gtx1060 even less so. You'll actually loose money vrs the electric bill to run the pc at loads. Profitable Mining rigs are using 9-10 amd gpus.

As far as power concerns, that old psu is shaky to start with but is enough for the 1070ti to mine with, you only use the processor for computes which takes relatively little power compared to graphics output. I'd not try gaming with it, chances are very good that anything over @300w usage will fry the psu.

Not even a less powerful card like 1060? The thing is that if I need to change the PSU the investment will probably not be worth it, just wanted to do something to squeeze some extra bucks with a computer that is doing nothing

From what I can find (and the info is limited), it doesn't look like a very good unit to begin with. Add X number of years degradation to it..... I wouldn't suggest any "new", relatively expensive hardware on it..... especially not for 24/7 usage.

I'd suggest maybe looking to the used market, for a decent PSU. Might be more budget friendly.

Ok, my idea was just to get the GPU but as you say it might be risky as the PSU is not very good quality. I think I'll just let it go, but thanks a lot for your help!

I was thinking to maybe get a new psu. However I'm worried that the rest of components may not be suitable for the gpu. I have this mother board: https://ark.intel.com/products/36888/Intel-Desktop-Board-DX58SO. Would 2 1070 fit there with a good psu? The system has 6gb RAM if it's worth knowing
