Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel i7 6700K for 3D Rendering

Hi,

I am kinda new to PC building and wanted some advice on what processor to choose when I build my first computer. I am between these two processors and I use programs such as Houdini, Maya, and 3DS Max. Is the Ryzen 5 better than the Intel i7 or should I look for a completely different processor? Thank you!

My budget is $300 to $400. I am wanting to upgrade my current comp which has a mediocre i3-6100. I figured I could either upgrade completely to an i7 or replace my mobo and CPU to work with a Ryzen setup; both of these options would probably cost $300. If the Ryzen 7 blows the Ryzen 5 and Intel i7s out of the water I would consider spending $400 maybe even $500 for an amazing mobo and CPU combo.

Are you now suggesting that I get an Intel processor? Or is this a representation of how expensive Intel processors can be?

You could update your BIOS if need be and get the 7700K, plus if your current motherboard supports overclocking you could push the CPU a bit further and get more performance from it. It's a good price right now as well.
