I'm trying to find parts to build a computer for my son. He is a student and doesn't have a lot of money (looking to do it as cheap as possible).

I've just purchased an MSI z97x motherboard and am looking to get an i5 cpu for that board. I was looking at a 4690k cpu right now.

For graphics cards, I was thinking GTX 960. I figure that will give him some time with the system to be able to play.

He says that the most demanding game that he will want to play is Destiny 2. The specs above meet the requirements for Destiny 2's recommended system. However, for the GTX cards, they are quite expensive considering his total budget is $350 CAD.

anyway... Can someone please let me know if this card will be okay for his needs? FYI.. He is not a huge gamer, but just wants the ability to play some decent games.

Solution
That would be fine for him as long as he has 8gb of RAM and is gaming on a monitor 1080P or lower res. Overclocking both the CPU & GPU should give him a bit more performance as well if needed.

yes it matters

they are garbage cards with a new coat of paint and perform as such

for that money look for a 7950

but it requires a 500w or better power supply with two 6-pin pcie cables

if he has a cheap power supply, then look for a used gtx 1050

7950??? Is that Radeon or NVidia?

I was going to get a used GTX 960 (legit) card. They seem to be going on ebay for $120 to $150. However, I saw this card and I didn't feel comfortable with it (the whole too good to be true thing). So, I thought I would come here since you guys know video cards.

So... Destiny 2 says:
Minimum: Nvidia - GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD - Radeon HD 7850 2GB
Recommended: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB / AMD - Radeon R9 390 8GB

I was going to put an SSD drive and 16GB of ram in the system with the i5. Hopefully a 4690k if I can find one at the right price. For the monitor I was just planning on using a spare 1080p TV that I have in my house w/HDMI.

The GTX 970 seems a lot higher in price than a 960.

The GTX 1050, not sure how much they are, I'll look it up after this.
