Is my graphics card dead? Please help me troubleshoot.

Didn't think that a day would come where I would have to ask if my graphics card is dead. :/

I was moving to a different place, hence I shipped my PC carelessly. The CPU fan got dislodged during the shipment and I guess it bounced around all the components, maybe also on the back of the graphics card.

I got a new thermal paste, cleaned the CPU and the stock cooler, put them back. PC was up and running when booted except the video output. It had weird vertical lines. When a screenshot is taken it doesn't contain any of those lines. Thought windows had some driver problem, the same happened when booted into Ubuntu.

What I've tried :

1. Uninstalled graphics driver using DDUD and then tried installing the newest version from AMD site. PC hangs in the middle of the installation.

2. Disassembled the card, applied fresh thermal paste and cleaned the PCB. No luck.

Some more notes -
* When display output is changed to Intel HD graphics, everything works great. No problems.
* Monitoring software like Afterburner, speccy, GPU-z show voltage, CPU clock, and other parameters as zero.
* Fans spin correctly, no problem there. Also, I don't hear any sounds from the motherboard.
* I don't have an oven.

Picture of the graphics card -

(Will upload picture of the pins on the graphics card later)

Build details :
CPU : Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz
Graphics : MSI r9 270x 2GB (probably dead)
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H (rev. 1.0)
PSU : Corsair VS650
RAM : 8GB (4x2) - Corsair Vengeance DDR4

Can you please provide me with other troubleshooting ideas? What can I do? I don't have another PC to test this graphics card on.

R.I.P 270x or does it have any resurrection chances?

make sure the pci video slot not snapped. if there a second video slot on your mb try that one to see if the gpu works. on your photo with the flash. next to made in chinna and next to the other white label you can see parts have been ripped off the back of the gpu. i woud put in a claim with the shipper for damages.

I just have one PCI-E x16 slot. Will check if any parts have been ripped off (I don't have the gpu with me right now)

Unfortunately, I do not have another PCI-E slot or another mobo to test. Will check out at a local repair shop as a last resort.

The motherboard you listed does indeed have another PCI-E x16 slot. It is the last slot and it runs at x4. While it isn't optimal to use your graphics card in that slot it should still display an image for the purpose of testing.

My thoughts being a damage graphics card as it sits right underneath the CPU fan. If it fell, the first thing it would hit is the graphics card.
I would also take suggest looking at the graphics card's PCI-E connector. Look for any kind of abrasions on the PCB. You could also look with a flashlight at the PCI-E connector on the motherboard to see if there are any bent or broken pins in the slot.

Thank you so much, I thought the second PCI-E slot is not compatible with the card. I'll check this soon (Fingers crossed :ange:)

What is all that rust looking material all over the back of your card? Ive never seen a card so discolored like that, I dont know if Just me but it looks like it has been exposed to high humidity, From my eyes it looks bad. If someone were to show me a picture of this and say whats wrong?.....I would say its going to short out.

@DarkEngine - Wow I'm glad you mentioned that. I wasn't able to look at this picture at work so I never noticed it. I just pulled up my phone and yes I see a lot of discoloration on the back of the PCB as well. The semi conductors have a heavy layer of of rust towards the GPU and even the PCB screws are showing rust on the inside. I'm not to knowledgeable about water damage and how much humidity it takes to cause damage. But I do know these 2 things...
1.The computer was working without issue before the move.
2. In your OP you mentioned this - "* When display output is changed to Intel HD graphics, everything works great. No problems.". That is a huge flag.
This is telling us that the iGPU is good, the CPU is good, the cabling is good. That portion of the motherboard is good. So the problem either exists with the graphics card or the PCIE Slot. I'm leaning more towards the graphics card as it is more exposed.

All you can really do is try it in the other slot. If it still gives the same issue then you know the card is fried.
