Random disconnects from the internet

Hi.
I have been playing online games and have noticed that my internet buts out repeatedly when I try to play sometimes. I run ethernet through a powerline ethernet kit because my house is old and doesn't have ethernet in the walls and it has been doing fine for the most part. However sometimes I just randomly get dropped from skype calls and games sometimes for a while and the skype online icon sits on loading for a while. During this time, however, I can detect no issues with my connecting when running the troubleshooter. There is also no warning icon over the ethernet symbol on the task-bar. I suspect that there is something wrong with either my wires, my powerline kit, or my something in my computer but since I can still access the internet with my phone I don't believe it is my router. Before I go through the costly and time-consuming process of trying to figure out how to fix this problem I was wondering if I am able to get some insight into what might be going on. Thank you.

The trick here is to isolate the problem....do you have wifi going straight to your router? If so, does that ever loose network? Are you able to run a cable straight from your PC to the router and run on there for awhile to see if you loose network connection?

When the network goes down, open a command prompt and try to ping 8.8.8.8 and your router.
How long does the connection go down for before it comes back?
What kind of speeds do you normally get?

Remember, its all about isolating the issue, first test your PC with a cable, then test the WIFI, see if you can replicate the results. my money is with the powerlines.

I would love to be able to connect straight to the router but to do so I would need a very long ethernet cable and it would have to run through two doorways and down a corridor. And moving my computer to the other room isn't possible because it would need to be in there far too long as the disconnects are sporadic. I will try to ping the router but during these times of disconnect I am still able to connect to the router through my internet browser (This is generally how I restart the router which tends to fix the problem.) Also, I have disabled my ethernet during these times but that doesn't connect me back on when I run through wifi. It may be the powerline kit or maybe the router as it is very old.
