I got a screw stuck in my case for one of my fans and I pulled on it with a hammer

Can my case fall apart?

Solution

If it hasn't yet, barring any retrocausality it'll be fine.
Your question makes no sense. Please clarify. Are you asking can you deform the case by pulling the screw out, assuming that either the screw or the case is stripped out, with a hammer? Yes, you can deform the case by doing that.

Will the whole case fall apart? No, that's unlikely.

A better option, if a screw is stuck because you stripped out the threads or the metal on the case, would be to use the hammer to apply outward force on the screw WHILE using a screwdriver to unscrew it. That should keep the case from being damaged. Any other method is likely to cause damage.

Good morning!!! :D

If your case is made of Jenga blocks(Tetris is digital so it can't be included and is therefore jealous) removing one element can cause it to come tumbling down. Case's these days are made from hard plastic, acrylic, glass, steel or a combination of those materials. Removing one or more screws will not make the case disintegrate or fall apart.

On a more personal note NEVER take a hammer to a case. When you FORCE an element into place you should know you're doing something wrong. Need a hammer to insert your RAM? You're doing something wrong. Treat your case with care.

There are also pliers or *gulp* vice grips to back off a screw.

If you ever have to take off the kid gloves while building a PC remember about forums like this. Don't do what you did. There are icons above the reply boxes. I'm really anxious at the minute, my case is not just going to fall to bits is it?
