Kinda Major FPS Issue

So I've bought a PC copy of Overwatch last Christmas. I've been playing it on my very low end laptop, an Acer Aspire E15 with an i5-4200U(I think), a 920m and 4 gigs of DDR3L RAM, just fine for me(30fps capped with all settings on minimum) up until this Summer when I started having major frame drops, up to a consistent 5 fps. I was considering upgrading the RAM to 8 gigs. Would it help?

This is a common misconception in PC gaming. More RAM does not give you a faster PC, it allows your computer to hold on to more information at a certain time which in some cases will give you better performance. In this case to play Overwatch the minimum system requirements say you need at least 4 GB of RAM but it's recommended that you have 6 GB. That being said you might experience some more fps, but probably not enough to make you happy. Also it's worth pointing out that RAM prices have skyrocketed recently so you'll be spending a lot of money just for most likely very little change. I would recommend you hold on to the RAM money and maybe save up for an upgrade. I don't know if you need it to be a laptop but getting a desktop would...

If not you can find some decent laptops you can game on.

From the sounds of it you are experiencing something that is really driving the performance down. You haven't changed any of the graphics settings in the game have you? Have you tried lowering the settings and resolution? That is my advise for you. Don't expect to be playing at 144 fps.

I've been playing at the native resolution of my monitor (1366x768), lowest settings. Though I find this really weird, I was considering building myself a PC, maybe for the holidays. Thank you for you answer, was really helpful.

If you need help picking parts you can ask me or even just ask us in the forum. Pick out a budget and we'll be happy to help you out. I will say that I recommend a GTX 1050 Ti graphic card, really good value with very good 1080p performance.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I was thinking a GTX 1050 since I'm on a pretty tight budget but if I could squeeze a Ti in there is surely get one.
