Hey, so I'm having problems connecting my newly built PC to my dual band router. I used to connect to my dual band router with no issue. I have a dual band wireless adapter in my pc that used to connect to the 5ghz band on my router. I've found that my internet speeds have slowed down, and after looking into the issue through my router i found its only connecting to the 2.4ghz band.. Not sure what could've caused this as a few days ago it connected just fine to the 5ghz band. I've tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times and I'm still not sure what to do.

Here is my Wireless card.

Running windows 10
Oh and just a side note I have set the preferred band to 5ghz already to no avail.

Have there been any windows updates applied to your PC lately? Has anything at all changed since the dual band worked? (any new programs installed, any configuration changes, anything at all)....have you confirmed that the 5GHz is being seen by windows? Instead of updating the drivers I would completely uninstall the drivers and do a fresh install of the software or drivers for the wireless card.

Do you have any other devices on your network with the 5GHz capability? IF so, do those devices get the 5GHz band? Make sure that the settings are correct on your dual band router.

What kind of router do you have?

Windows Update: yeah, actually after checking there were a few installed around when seemed to start getting problems, going to try and uninstall those and see if anything changes.

The 5ghz band is not being seen by windows. I've messed with my router and made it so the bands are split into two ssid's and my PC did not see the 5ghz band but my phone saw it.

Have tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the drivers once already, will try again after messing with the windows updates.

And as said above, other devices can connect to the 5ghz band.

Router: Cisco DPC3941T (Just the router that my ISP has supplied)

Since your phone is able to see the 5ghz band then the problem. Is with your PC..my guess is windows updates did something, if you can roll back your PC or uninstall the recent updates to see if that makes any changes. If not we'll go from there. Keep us posted.

Okay, so I changed the wireless mode strictly to 802.11a (instead of a/b/g) As well as changed the channel width to 20mhz and now it's connecting to the routers 5ghz band and working. Oddly if I set the channel width to auto it doesn't work. Going to mess with it some more because it's slower then it used to be. A lot slower, but faster then the 2.4ghz band.

Don't really understand why it works when I changed those settings but, whatever LOL.

Its working because your picking a specific setting for it to use so the controller knows exactly what is what. When you have it set to auto or 20/40 its getting confused. 802.11 a is for 5GHz band and supports up to 54mbps, that's why its able to connect to the 5ghz band now. When you say that the speed is way slower than before, what is the speed now compared to before? The thing with setting your router to 20 MHz is that 20 is USUALLY for 2.4ghz band, doesn't mean that 5 wont work on it, just typically 2.4 is used on 20...so with the 5ghz you should be using 802.11N on 40 mhz.
Side note, changing from 20 to 40 wont really give much of a speed boost but will give better signal in certain environments.

So try changing to 802.11 N if you have it, if not keep it on A. If you are able to disable the 2.4 ghz band on your NIC card and see if that boost anything.
Have you tried to see if there is a firmware update for your router?
I doubt there is a driver only for 5ghz band but if there is may want to uninstall everything else and try only that driver.

There is no N option in the settings. (even though the card supports it) This is why I've been confused, because when I first installed the card everything worked 100% fine with the default settings. (Wireless set to a/b/g) My router supports AC speeds, and so does my Wireless nic card. Oh and there is no option to change the channel, only 20mhz and auto..

Under control panel -> network it used to fluctuate speeds between 500-650mpbs. Now it says 130-160mbps

This is very strange, it's acting like the entire 5ghz radio has been disabled on the card without it actually being disabled. Just to confirm you did update the bios? Do you by chance know the bio version you ran on when everything g did work??

Is it possible to try and delete the drivers once again, reset the CROSS and revert the bios back to the firmware it originally was when it worked??

It's even more confusing that your able to use 5ghz at all with what's going on...what about windows updates, done any of those past day or so?

I did update the bios recently, but I as far as I saw it seemed to be working fine right after I updated it. It was only a few days/weeks after that I started having problems, suspect it might be driver problems with windows update. Will try uninstalling windows updates and rolling back..

sorry for the late reply, xmas and all.....okay let me know how it goes with the updates and/or rolling back. At this point I am as stumped as you, but two heads are better than one I suppose. btw in my previous post I noticed I said "CROSS" instead of "CMOS" I'm not sure how I missed that before but yeah.

Hey guys, don't worry about this anymore as I decided to just go ahead and try a powerline adapter and it is working a lot better and is a lot more consistent than my wireless connection.

Hey sorry man. I didn't see your other post till just now. Glad to hear it's working better. Are you going to try and isolate the issue?
