So, I noticed that my temperatures in games was hitting over 80 degrees, and about 45-50 idle. I have since re-seated my CPU and applied some grizzly kryonaught instead of the paste I had been using. I used only slightly more than 3mmx3mm, you know how it is trying to stop it coming out...

Anyway, my temperatures are now at 35-45 idle and around 55-69 in-game, with the min/max/average in HWinfo being 40/76/55. Is this okay, or should I consider re-applying a smaller blob of paste.

I should also note that it randomly sometimes jumps up to a high temperature in HWinfo for literally about two seconds before going back to the normal temperature, is this normal too?

The game I used was Dark Souls 3.

No need to reapply , the temps are very good. :)

Jumps are normal too.

What is that high temperature? In line with your idle and load temps? Fine. Higher? Not good. CPU spikes are normal. Even though I may only be watching a movie there are many other processes, logs being written and other stuff that's happening in the background.

It was 76 degrees, although I didn't notice it do it in Speccy, only HWinfo.

Thank you for the responses guys. It's funny, I've been in the computing industry for over ten years, but the one thing that always gets to me is temperatures of components. I guess I'm a little OCD about them...

Although, that could be because I had an Intel and an AMD build and the AMD build always had 20 degrees idle, and 50 in-game, haha.

That's good. Other people know how to press the on button and they never get to know their PC better than that. It's just taking responsibility for your PC. Thanks for that :) Glad we could help.

Oh, I do have another question actually. Is it normal for the temperature to spike to 81, hang at 76-81 for a few seconds then drop to an idle temp of 35-40?

I should clarify this is only whilst loading everything in Windows after boot. I haven't ever paid much attention to a boot temperature.

How full is your start menu? Do you have a lot of programs starting when Windows does? Do they all need to start or can you start them when needed? I use Ccleaner to trim the fat from my start menu. Open Ccleaner, tools Startup.

I am curious what SR-71 has to say. I am not as experienced or even close.
