Thanks for taking a look! I will try to keep it as brief as possible.

Purchasing a Gaming PC in the next 2 months w/ a budget of ~$1,750 (excluding OS, GPU, PSU, Monitor, M/K, and secondary storage). Going for a black/white color scheme highlighted by RGB color.

I am based in NYC and typically buy from Newegg, but I have a Microcenter 10 mins away. Pretty loyal to EVGA at the moment as far as brand preference goes.

I do plan to OC from the start and would like the ability to SLI in the future, but have no immediate plan to do so.

Existing setup is have a boot issue, which is most likely emanating from one of the 3 other SSD and HDD storage devices I have in my machine. Windows 10 OS hangs at loading screen. Figured if i was going to go through the trouble of finding out if it was a bad drive and/or bad sata port and/or bad cable... I would just use it as yet another reason to justify a whole new build to myself.

My Dumb Storage Question - (PCIe4x & M.2 Usage)
Intel Optane SSD 900P (280GB, AIC PCIe 3.0 x4
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167437&cm_re=Intel_Optane_900p_m.2-_-20-167-437-_-Product

I was just reading reviews for the new Optane SSD, which seems to only comes in a PCIe form factor. I assume i could put this into my PCIe4x slot without issue, but I wanted to know what happens if i was to use this in conjunction with the Samsung 960 pro M.2. Does this create a bottleneck as far as the number of PCIe lanes are concerned? Do i lose SATA_5/6 port functionality? Is this just pain overkill? Does my sound card and wireless netcard affect this setup at all?

Sorry for the lengthy post... I know I said i would try and be brief! Any input would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

MB - The WiFi version of that board is not that much more expensive.
CPU COOLER - Water cooling isn't required to overclock. Look toward a good air cooler to keep temps in check just the same, but also save on the budget.
STORAGE - Your M.2 and the SATA ports contend for lanes, not your PCIe lanes... Note the message at the bottom of the PCPickerPart list saying "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled". With two M.2 drives installed you would be disabling SATA ports... You would be fine with PCIe 4x storage paired with M.2 storage. With that said, the Intel Optane is fast, but you won't see a real world difference between it and...

With that said, the Intel Optane is fast, but you won't see a real world difference between it and another good NVMe drive for less cost. Fast is fast when you are looking at this performance level. Skip it and look toward a larger, or a second, Samsung 960.
CASE - Fine, but way too expensive!

Microcenter can save you on the budget if you like one of the bundled motherboards. Fortunately they have the ASUS ROG STRIX in the bundle list. At $560 that would save you around $100... http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

Thanks for the input!

If overall case noise is a concern could I still get bye with air cooling? This system will be in a bedroom so I am trying to skew towards quieter cooling solutions.

Just for clarity on the storage question. the 4x lanes bandwidth is the limiting factor, correct? All the interfaces are based off of that lane group, while the slots for the GPU is on a separate set of lanes totaling 16? (8x./8x if i was in SLI)

Agree case is expensive. Certainly a vanity purchase done to fit with the overall theme color scheme. That and my last Lian Li case lasted 10 years so I am preferential.

Good look on the microcenter bundle. Easy way to save $100. I will take a look at STRIX.
