Hello. As described I have windows 7 ...when I scan for updates with windows update ( or it scans for itself since I have it scheduled to scan automatically) I see some .exe that I know are related to windows update go up to 400-700 MB ram. When then scan is over after 5-8 minutes that they still using 400-500mb they suddenly drop to 50 mb and stay there until the next scan. Is this normal ? Does the windows update scan consume 500mb in windows 7 ? While idle my system consumes 1,5/8 GB Ram with only avast running as an application.I don't think I have malware since I am very careful.

Windows manages ram contents. It will leave code in ram in anticipation of possible reuse.
I would not be worried.

If you ever think you may have a ram shortage problem, look in task manager and the hard fault page rate.
That is when windows must stop a process to replace ram contents.
If you see a rate of more than 1 per second, that is a problem.

Thanks for the quick reply!Right now all the processes have a rate of 0 but there have been times when I see a rate of 5-6 or even 20 faults per second...for example,It goes up to 20 and then starts decreasing until 0.Should I get worried?

I have a FX 6300 a Radeon R9 270X 8 GB RAM an SSD and a HDD...I don't think I have malware since I scan with MalwareBytes and Avast pretty much everyday and nothings comes up.Last, but not least I have read that this rate doesn't mean anything there are not actual errors but I would like to know what I should do.I don't want any trouble.

I understand that the Hard faults habe to do with RAM shortage but I think it's normal for a process or two to have let's say 20 hard faults because I don't think that everything can be on the Ram and not in the HDD especially when you start a program. Furthermore since I play a lot of heavy games but I never have any lag and I check the resource monitor while gaming and the hard faults then are 0 so I don't think I have any ram problems . Is it possible to have malware but 4 different great antivirus and cleaners not finding it ? Not very possible but what do you say?
