I’ll prereq this by saying it’s my first pc, built a few weeks ago. I’m basically clueless. It played fine for 2 weeks before this started happening.

Specs:
CPU: ryzen 5 1600
MOBO: asrock ab350m pro4
RAM: gskill aegis 8gb
PSU: evga 650gq
GPU: geforce 750ti, secondhand
HDD: firecuda 2.5inch sshd

The problem: the image stays the same, but nothing will respond. Keyboard shortcuts and mouse won’t respond but all the lights stay on and the fans run. Reboot and it runs seemingly fine.

When it happens: while gaming, within an hour it’ll shut down sometimes less. Browsing and lite work a couple times a day.

How to replicate: can’t seem to. I downloaded furtest to stress the gpu, hovered at 80degress for half an hour, much higher then when I game, nothing happened. Tried prime95 for an hour, nothing. Coupled the two and nothing. Memtest86+ didn’t make it freeze

Tests and other info: downloaded Seagate hdd analysis, it passed every test.

Stressed it with prime 95, fur test, opened all my programs and prime95, and worked for an hour without freezing, though very choppy

Took apart and reseated all the hardware

Deleted and reinstalled the newly installed apps since the problem started

Checked drivers

Scanned with two anti malware programs, avast and windows defender.

I’m out of ideas. I suppose the next step would be a fresh reinstall of windows, but I’d prefer not to do that. My internet is under 200kb/s so it’s a real pain to start fresh.

Any ideas on my next steps?

Solution
Your RAM isn't listed as being compatible with your motherboard either in the QVL for that motherboard or on the Gskill website, this is likely the cause of the problem.

Thanks.

Hopefully that's not the issue. When I was researching the build someone said they had luck with the MOBO RAM combo.

Yeah that's true. G.skill has like 30 ram listed on the QVL page so I'd hope there'd be some similarities.

I just don't want to believe I have to go through another damn RMA lol. The cost of RAM is crazy these days.

I’m resetting my BIOS to an earlier one. At one point I installed the newest BIOS and maybe that was when things started going downhill.
