Can't access Wireless Range Extender through its IP address after resetting to factory settings.

I use a Tenda A30 as a second access point, i.e. it mirrors the main router which is connected to the internet to boost the signal.

I had some problems with it and had to reset it to factory settings using the tiny button you can only reach with a thin object. After resetting I can connect to its wireless signal, but I can't access its page by entering the Default Gateway in a browser. The connection just times out. The default IP is supposed to be 192.168.0.254 as stated in the manual and on the back of the Tenda itself.

I tried connecting to it directly with an ethernet cable, but same problem.

However, I can access the internet through it without problems, but I want to configure it and set up encryption.

More specs:

Wireless range extender: Tenda A30
Wireless adapter on PC: Linksys WUSB100
Main router: Huawei HG8245H
OS: Windows 10 64bit
MOBO: Gigabyte P61-DS3-B3

I also tried connecting from different PCs and laptops, but it's the same problem every time.

Solution
So the Tenda is now both accessible and showing in the main router's list?

Sometimes it takes a bit of time for all the devices to get their handshaking completed and become visible.

All too common for things to appear not to have worked when all that needs to be done is to wait awhile.

I would try another simple reset first and if that fails try a 30/30/30 reset: With the device powered on hold the reset button in for 30 seconds. Keep holding the reset button in (during the whole exercise) and unplug the device holding it in for another 30 seconds. Then plug the device back in with the reset button still depressed and hold it in for another 30 seconds then let it go. (note that this is recommended by Tenda and most other router/extender/AP makers if a simple reset fails)

Then use an Ethernet connected device to enter the configuration pages.

Hm, I've never heard of 30/30/30 resetting. Anyway, I tried it (I'd already tried simple resetting 10 times) but it doesn't seem to help. I did it just like you instructed, but still can't access the router by its default IP address, neither through an ethernet cable nor through wireless.

When you configured the Tenda A30 as an access point did you use a wired connection to set up the configuration?

And did you specifically set the access point to have a static IP address reserved on the main Huawie router via the Tenda's MAC. And with that static IP address being outside of the DHCP IP address allotted to the main router?

And be sure that Tenda's DHCP function is disabled.

Double check the IP addresses being used.

netstat and arp -a may prove helpful.

And the Huawei may provide the same information via an administrative function.

30/30/30 is a very common procedure if you do a lot of router firmware work, just google it along with dd-wrt to learn more.

What address does your router indicate for the device in its attached devices list? Is it the default or a different address?

I figured it out! I connected to the AP with an Ethernet cable and I configured the Ethernet adapter on my PC to use a static IP by following this guide:

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/

I could then connect and log into the AP's config page. What settings should I change inside to be able to access it normally again (wirelessly)?

I managed to access it using a wired connection and by setting a static IP address for the Ethernet adapter on my PC.

I've never fiddled with any settings on the main router regarding the Tenda. The Tenda is connected to the main Huawei by an Ethernet cable and acts as a Wireless Range Extender. I don't have any issues regarding the connection between these two.

Being able to access the Tenda now, should I change the IP address settings somehow so I can access it normally through wireless connection?

I can access the Tenda now, but when I tried to find it in the main router's devices list before it wasn't showing.
