So, a while ago I posted that my pc had stoped working and the advice given was that the PSU was not working properly and I should buy a new one. Now that I have bought a new PSU and installed it, the whole machine does not turn on. The blue/white light that indicates that theres power lights up when the PSU is turned on but the fan does not start up nor does anything else in the machine. Before I took out the old PSU, all the fans and the optical drive would start up but nothing else. HELP!

So, you have
the 24 pin ATX main connector
the 8 pin ATX cpu connector
the CPU fan header on the CPU fan

Remove the graphics card, hook the monitor up to the board
remove all header connections to the motherboard from the case including fans (except the CPU)
install only one stick of RAM in the slot closest to the CPU
Clear the CMOS

Plug the PSU directly into the wall, bypassing any surge protectors or UPS.

what happens now?

Sorry, it took me ages to figure out how to reboot the CMOS. Ive tried the jumpers and taking out the battery but the only thing thats happened is that the white power light no longer turns on when I power up the machine

Yes I followed the list that you gave and reset the CMOS as to how my motherboard manual told me to but now when I plug the power into the machine, the white light from the power button does not come on whereas it did before. That is the only change so far.

My motherboard doesnt have that, it has two jumpers that you reset by touching them with a metal object such as a screwdriver. I thought it was wrong but after looking most of yesterday and this morning thats the only way to reset the CMOS on my PC.

No, that's normal, therefore the normal position is unjumpered and the answer is yes.

OK you've done a good job narrowing stuff down, if it was on my bench I'd try another PSU with literally nothing plugged into the board except the CPU and it's fan. Not RAM, not a single header or cable it doesn't need.

No, still nothing happens. I think Im just going to take it to a repair shop so they can have a look at it before I blow the motherboard and/or CPU if i haven't already. Thank you for your help.
