Green vertical lines only on certain colours of the screen. Mostly black and transparency? Blues and most other colours are pictured perfectly. I tried a new cable. Can only presume a gpu or mointor failure but do not have others i can test on. Any suggestions?

If you can get the monitor tested on something else, that leaves you with the video card as the point of failure.
You can try alternate connection points to the card to, ie , DVI instead of HDMI.
Listing your system specs when asking for support would be helpful, you're leaving us guessing too much.
