I've had a 780ti for a long time, on my wndows 7 pro without issues.

Ever since upgrading to a ROG Strix 1080ti last week, the Nvidia drivers (388.59) have been randomly crashing while im idle in desktop. This has been happening with the previous version of the drivers too.
I tried uninstalling the drivers completely, and reinstalling to no avail.
Tried also playing around with the power settings on both nvidia and control panel, maximum performance and all that, as suggested in some other forums.
Again nothing seems to help.
Just now i was typing an email and the Nvidia drivers randomly crashed and recovered.
I have a dual monitor setup not sure if that is an issue at all, it didnt used to be on my old 780ti.
However I did notice that since I've installed the 1080ti, all the windows I have open on secondary monitor, regularly get minimized on their own for some reason.

Hope someone has some advice.

Thanks.

Solution
Look in uninstall programs list. Is there with a labeled "display adapter" installed? If so, uninstall it any cleanly reinstall video drivers then try it again.

Yes I also tried that. did a windows update, crucial and non crucial, a few days ago.
Im running windows 7 pro.

You think the GPU is faulty?
Bought it while in New York, and I live in Europe, where we dont have Asus.

Not that I noticed so far no.
Only while in desktop, and usually while using Firefox iirc.
This could be a coincidence though.

Yes only from control panel, ok I'll try that with DDU and report back.
Thanks.

I actually have the same exact issue. Except I'm using ROG Strix 1060. Driver 388.59 keeps crashing and recovering randomly and I've noticed it's mostly while I'm in Firefox. Doesn't happen when I watch a movie or play a game, but if I'm browsing a site or watching a youtube video it crashes at least once, every session I do in firefox. I'm running only 1 monitor setup, so I doubt it's your dual setup.

If you can confirm uninstalling and installing drivers again fixes it, i'll try it too.

Actually doing it with DDU had worked for the past 9 days, since doing it I hadn't gotten a single crash.
But just now, while browsing Firefox, it crashed again.
Everything just freezes for a second then the monitor refreshes, and Nvidia pops up that it just recovered from a driver crash.

Not sure if we should just stick the the ROG Strix Nvidia drivers that are available on their own site?

I haven't got a clue why this is happening. But it seems to be related to Firefox.
