How do I update firmware for a seagate hdd on a z170 motherboard.

Motherboard:

ST3000DM001

When I tried to update the firmware, the software in DOS window complain no driver can be found. I googled around and it seems I need to switch sata control to IDE mode from AHCI.

However these new motherboard only support AHCI and there's no option to select IDE mode.

What's next?

After backing up the drive you put it on a motherboard that does support IDE compatibilit mode and flash it.

The question I have is, why would you update the[strike] BIOS [/strike] firmware on a working drive?

I don't have a IDE mobo.

The HDD has parking header issue.

If your board doesn't support that function and you don't have one that does, there's no magic that will create an IDE setting on the motherboard BIOS. There's no magic work around. The use of USB to SATA adapters is not valid for this use either.
