i am adding a ssd to my computer and currently am using solely a hard drive. I want to move windows and other programs like steam and discord to the ssd while keeping most games on the hard drive is it easiest to just wipe the hdd and reinstall windows on the ssd as i dont mind doing that and if i am meant to do that what is the best way to completely clear my old hard drive so i can dedicate it solely to games storage

Solution
1. When you install the OS on the SSD, have only the SSD connected.
What OS is this? If Win 10, read here: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3567655/clean-installation-windows.html

2. AFter it is all up and running on the SSD< reconnect the old HDD.
Disk Management, and wipe ALL existing partitions.
You may need to delve into diskpart at the commandline to fully wipe all the original boot partitions.

3. To manage space between the two drives, read here:

You cannot clone only Windows etc, but you can clone the entire drive.

Your options are really:
1. Delete/shrink your used portion of the HDD to smaller than the SSD, then clone the entire drive.
2. Clean install your OS onto the SSD and use the HDD "as is"
3. Clean install your OS onto the SSD, backup game/save files etc, then format the HDD.

Either 2 or 3 would be the preferred route - starting with a clean install.
You do lose some HDD space going route #2 though..... but #3 will take longer, and require somewhere to backup your data to*.

*Although you should have a regular backup destination/routine anyway.
