Laptop specs for recording live HD video from a webcam, plus high quality audio

I'm having issues with frames getting missed and sync problems when recording through videopad. My laptop is an A6 9220. At the moment I'm trying to record at 720p 30fps via webcam with AAC audio at 320 kbps. I'm filming myself playing the piano so high quality audio is important. To clarify, I have no need to stream but only to capture it as an mp4.

I made one film that was basically fine (apart from needing a consistently set adjustment of 0.080 of a second to sync up). Others are regularly losing some sync with a stop start feel to the captured video. Is it feasible to fix this with my current specs? Would alternative programmes for capturing help? How about USB cables? Might a dodgy one slow down the data transfer? Is there anything I can use to monitor the performance more specifically?

It's not a disaster if it's unworkable on my system, as I can record separately and sync up with avidemux, but it's a little more hassle. It would be great if there are any tips on stabilising things when recording straight into the laptop.

The only options in videopad are H264 or H265 plus mp4. What else are you thinking of? Any suggestions for alternative apps that might help?

The other odd thing I'm getting is that my full HD camera isn't recognised in anything except Windows 10 camera. In everything else I can use a generic go pro style Chinese one but not my main camera. In Windows camera it seems to lag for ten seconds or so on pressing record but otherwise seems to work. I think this is mp4 too. The problem with Windows camera is I can't find any options for selecting audio quality and it's very important I can get decent sound.
