My setup is as follows:
I5 6600k @ 3.5ghz
asus 1050ti 4gb
asus z170 gaming A mobo
2x8gb Corsair vengeance ram
corsair h100
cx750m power supply

I want to have a steady overclock on this computer so it preforms better than it does currently.. i attempted today to hit 4.0ghz but when i stress test it with asus rog benchmark it the app seems to crash..

My overclock was as followed:
XMP was enabled , Cores all synced to 40 , Voltage at 1.350

my default voltage was set to 1.350 i switched it to manual and kept it the same as i thought that was high enough as is..

1.35V is mid/high, and 4.0Ghz is not really an overclock at all as the i5-6600k already boost to 3.9Ghz. If you're comfortable with 1.35V try pushing for 4.5Ghz at least. Most people would recommend not to go higher than 1.4V.

You should be able to go higher than 4 ghz... I like Asus boards for OCing, they do well so I don't think that's the problem Your cooling and power is good... I:f it were me, I would bump it to 1.4 and see if you can go higher. Then, once your get to a comfortable OC, like 4.4/4.5, see if you can bump back the power.

Also, you might consider using one of the Asus pre-made OC settings and see if that works. If it does, it might mean that you don't have something clicked that you need too...

i made a youtube video of my stock settings vs what i changed.. it would be greatly appreciated if you could watch it and give me your feedback.. im completely new to playing around with settings i just followed what i found on the internet.

https://youtu.be/rv_FMb5nZOc

when i set it as shown in the video my realbench ended up crashing not the pc.. temps were in the ranges of high 60-70's with some hitting 80. It wasnt able to pass the stress test...

to clarify if any confusion i changed the following:
Turned XMP ON
Sync All Cores and Changed it to 40
Left the voltage on auto ( still crashed )
adjusted the voltage to manual and kept it at 1.350 (still crashed)

i didnt think 4.0ghz would be much i just wanted to get a feel for what its like to push my system because when i play pubg on default settings im getting 3.6ghz with 100% cpu load...

Set the Ai Overclock Tuner to manual instead of xmp, keep your ram speeds at auto or 2133MHz, disable ASUS multicore enhancement, set 1.35v as the voltage and try 40 on all cores again. Download cpu-z and check the voltage after you boot to windows with 4GHz and run the test.
