AMD says their x370 will be supported till 2020, dunno how long z370 is gona be. Having a hard time choosing between the i5-8600k and a ryzen 1700-1800x. Want to be able to upgrade later on without buying a new motherboard and all that shit. Which will save me more cash?

Since we don't know what you use the PC for and what sort of performance you require, hard to tell.

For most people, upgrading their CPU every 2 years is extreme, especially at the performance level of an 8600k. Given it's 6 cores and solid OC capacity, I'd be estimating ~5 years for gaming. At that stage, you'd be up for a new board regardless of what you bought.
