Hello everyone, I recently ordered a pre built PC for my little brother;

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-omen-by-hp-desktop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-1tb-hard-drive-brushed-aluminum/5759916.p?skuId=5759916

But I have a few questions regarding upgrading RAM to make it 16gigs for him. So apparently it comes with one 8gb stick of ddr4 sdram clocked at 2133mhz with the option of adding another stick of ram to max it at 16 gigs.

The part thats a little confusing for me is, if I were to buy him a standard 8 gig 2133 mhz stick from hyper x thats DDR4, would it be compatible with his computer? Or does the fact that it's "sdram" anything?

Also one final question, I'm not sure what type of MOBO exactly came with this pre built so if it were compatible, could I simply buy any brand of ddr4 2133 mhz?

Solution
First of all, check with HP whether you are not voiding any warranty. In case, you still want to go ahead, here's how to do it:

    Download CPU-Z and identify motherboard model. Also check number of slots available, type and model of ram installed (or open the case).

    If you have one extra slot available (as you have described), buy the same model of ram from any reliable source and install it. You cannot go wrong and it is usually recommended.

    In case you want to use some different ram, check on motherboard's site for compatibility. Contact motherboard manufacturer if you are unable to find your ram model listed.
