Guys!

Just joined and looking to pick your fine brains for advice as I seem to have got myself into a pickle trying to decide which set up to go for.

Please bear in mind that this is an xmas present for my son for his FIRST gaming pc . He is 15 soon to be 16 years old. So I thought it would be best to start him off from the bottom, testing him out on a pretty medium used/pre-owned set up and see if he develops a keen interest rather than spend £1000’s and it turns out to be a waste. So my aim is to have a decent first set up, and then buy build a more better system later.

So, there are 2 set ups that I have agreed to buy. Don’t ask how, so gonna need to choose. They are:

i5 set up.

Intel i5-2400@ 2.5ghz
GeForce GTX760
11 GB Ram (ddr3)
500gb HDD
60GB SSD

Great gaming pc
Comes with standard keyboard and mouse

Plays pubg 60fps
Rainbow six siege 108fps

I am told that this machine will play anything with ease.

i7 set up.

its only just been built using mainly used parts, the hdd psu and cpu cooler are all brand new though

i7 860, 8gb hyper x ram, 500gb hdd, gigabyte motherboard, aerocool inergrator 600w psu, gtx 960 4gb graphics card, zalman z11 plus case 22 inch monitor and a brand new keyboard and mouse still in the box, from 120mm white led fan and 3 120mm blue led fans in the top and the back and a blue led light strip

Also has a Corsair fan at the bottom and comes with win 10 and 64 bit pro.

Both seems decent for a first gaming pc. Hopefully he will develop a keen interest and we can both do some bonding with pc building.

- [ ] My head says i7 but I would love to hear your advice. There’s only £20 in price different but 70 minutes difference in driving time to collect.

On a side know, if you happen to be the seller of the above kit, you can’t blame me for checking it out :)

Thanks in Advance.

David.

Well....

1st off that i5 machine won't play PUBG at anything near 60 FPS except with the resolution and graphics setting at the lowest settings.. No, it won't play everything with ease, truth is it will struggle with any of the new AAA games. And 11GB of ram, what's going on with that, not sure how they get 11GB of ram, somethings wrong there. And what is anyone going to do with a 60GB SSD? NO WAY I WOULD BUY THAT ONE..

The i7 machine is actually better except for the power supply that would have to be changed to a better quality one. Sounds like they stuck a cheap one in before putting it up for sale. That is a junk power supply.

My recommendation would be get the i7 machine and a new quality PSU. Also adding a 250GB SSD...

The i7 860 machine will play any of the newer AAA games just fine, I still have an i7 870 machine with a RX 480 in it personally that will play ANYTHING out there with no issues. Now a GTX 960 is slower than an RX 480, but at least it will work well for what it's needed for.
