dual coffee lake better than Threadripper?

I'm a gamer who also does editing, multitasking and streaming etc. Now a lot of people have been banging on about the Ryzen Threadripper, but couldn't i run dual 8700K's for about the same money and get better performance?

You can't just buy two coffee lake. You'd be buying two whole new computer systems. Even an LGA2066 X299 chipset Intel motherboard and i7-7920x would be cheaper.

Now if gaming performance is a major concern and you are willing to spend extra. An i7-7900x or i7-7920x would likely be a better option for your interests.

Threadripper is great for slamming out a cheap rendering and video editing workstation. There are better options for your uses. An i7-8700K would likely handle your uses fine.

That might be an option, if there were actually any dual-CPU Coffee Lake motherboards out there. Heck, I'm not sure there are that many dual-CPU Kaby Lake motherboards out there. And most dual-CPU Intel motherboards are designed primarily for use with their Xeon line of CPUs...& the Coffee Lake Xeons haven't come out yet.

If you mean you want to run a two PC streaming setup then yes that might be as good or better but it certainly would not be cheaper. You would need two full systems; 2 motherboards, 2 sets of RAM, 2 processors, 2 power supplies (barring an exotic 2 machine case with power distribution), 2 sets of storage and a capture card that frankly is a pain to setup. You can definitely get into Threadripper or Intel HEDT for less than that price.

If you mean two coffee lakes on one board they don't exist and will never exist frankly. There will be 2 socket Xeons at some point but the clock speed won't come close to an 8700K so the game performance will likely not be there. Intel has not allowed 2 socket interconnect on mainstream gear (or even high end consumer gear) for a long time. Dual socket Xeon stuff is certainly not cheaper.
