I recently acquired a second hand WD Caviar Black 1 TB Hard Disk Drive and I would like to know it it possible to check the HDD for viruses without needing to connect the HDD into a Desktop PC or External Disk Enlosure.
Thanks,

Unless you can read a HDD with your fingers, you have to attach it to something that can read it. The only thing capable of reading it that you can afford is your PC. Anything else would cost WAY more than a new hard drive.

I know they exist but I have never actually gotten a virus from attaching a second hard drive. I wouldn't personally think twice about attaching one and running a virus scan on it. But then I have a good backup plan and if a virus attacked I'd be ok.
