Will GTX 1070 be overkill for 1080p 60hz gaming upto like 3-4years?

I am thinking about buying a GTX 1070 this Christmas to play games at 60+fps for at least 3-4 years on a 1080p 60hz monitor. So will it be overkill or more futureproof for me? Also any motherboard from intel 4th gen can handle gtx 1070? Not thinking about upgrading to 1440p monitor with this graphics card. Also can any motherboard from intel 4th gen handle gtx 1070 or will it bottleneck? :??:

Solution
anything that will allow you to play all of your games at 1080p and over 60fps with graphics maxed out isn't overkill and it's money well spent for the years that you're going to get out of it. If you decide to get a more competitive edge when it comes to monitors you could get a 144hz monitor.
There are always new features coming out that demand more and more of your graphics card. So whle a 1070 at 60hz will be overkill to start with. It does give you some cushion to deal with whatever comes next. No one can promise 3-4 years, but odds are that this would be the case.

For now it would seem overkill but in a few years you'll be happy you got the GTX 1070 instead of the 1060.
And don't worry about a bottleneck from 4th gen unless you've got a low end CPU. (i3 or slow i5)

There's little to no bottleneck on the motherboard side compared to the GPU... PCI lanes have backward compatibility so that's not really an issue...

The real question would be the CPU bottleneck compared to the 1070.

But answering your question, you're good. Just as stated above it's a bit of overkill for just 60FPS, but if you wanna be on the safe side it's a wise choice, but no one here(that i'm aware of) can foresee the future, so i can't give you any certainty.

My general strategy with GPUs: I buy what I need for the foreseeable future because by the time I will need to upgrade it, I'll be able to buy something twice as fast if not more for about the same price with the added advantages of a fresh warranty and newer architecture/process compared to paying twice as much years in advance for performance I'm not going to need any time soon.

Completely agreed!!!
That's why I have a 970 not a 1080.

I bought R7 260X like 4yrs back and ran it till now so it will be a major upgrade for me and i will surely go for gtx 1070 as you guys said and will be hoping that it will also give me a better performance in the upcoming years. As for the cpu side i got a i5 4690k, so will bottleneck be a problem? And also than you guys for helping me out so fast

No it will not be a bottleneck. There are some games that would perform better with a faster CPU, but the CPU won't hold the graphics card back at all.
