My custom PC is fully assembled and working very well.

One of my case fans has a 3 pin connector and a MOLEX power cable. the fan was working very well. but i realized that I had connected only the molex and the 3 pin was not connected.

I connected them both. the 3pin as well as the molex. as soon as I switched on the PC i noticed a burning wire smell from the wires of the case fan.

I immediately switched off the PC.

My understanding from this is that if the PC case fan has both molex and 3 pin, then we should either connect 3 pin or molex but not both. Am i correct? or was some other factor caused the fan wire to burn up?

Solution
You can actually connect both 3pins and molex fan. Try removing the cadr fans and inspect them one by one. Also it might be your powrr supply unit, a pc specification list would help.
