DRAM warning - voltage low

Hi there,

I'm building a new PC with the following configuration:

- Motherboard LGA 2066 Asus Prime X299-A (all drivers installed)
- CPU Intel i7 7740X,
- DDR4 2x16GB 3200 mHz memory sticks Corsair Dominator Platinum
- Watercooler CoolerMaster Master Liquid Pro 240
- PSU Corsair TX850M
- Windows 10 64 bits (installed on a SSD)

When I started the PC and ran AI Suite 3, I noticed that the "DRAM Voltage AB" is low (0.304V, while I suppose it should be 1.2V). DRAM CD voltage is ok (1.2V). See attached picture:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hnApGZb-bUddhj15jADQABsg04ckqlP2/view?usp=sharing

(by the way, what is DRAM AB voltage? Is it the voltage supplied to the memory slots? If so, which ones? I could not find any explanation on the manual nor on the web)

When I check CPU-Z, the memory sticks apparently are running at the right frequency, and the PC is apparently stable (I'm writing this message from it). If I try to do a stress test with MemTest, it does not run ("Could not allocate 4095 MB").

I have already replaced the PSU for a test, and switched memory sticks position, but the problem remains.

Does anybody have any idea of what is happening and how can I solve it?

I've already contacted the supplier requesting the replacement of the mobo, but I would like to try something, as this is going to be a real pain for me (need to disassemble, ship back, wait for new one, assemble again, spending more thermal paste, time, etc). I would be very grateful for any helfpul thoughts.

Best regards,

Antonio Intini

Hi Robert,

I just did that, see the outputs of HWMonitor in the link:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zM4Oi3YaXLR--hfyy_EISZGwyx5xeuq-/view?usp=sharing

Apparently it does not have a reading similar to AI's "DRAM Voltage AB", so I'm not sure if we can observe the problem with this software. Running AI Suite III again, the problem remains the same.

Any other idea?

Hi Robert,

Your hyphotesis is very reasonable. Apparently the PC is working fine. Meanwhile, I carried out a test with the Windows tool for RAM check (mdsched.exe), and it found no issues with the memory as well.

I set the voltage to 1.25 as per your sugestion, and as you can see in the link below, the DRAM Voltage CD increased accordingly, while the AB remained the same value as before.

So I assume the only way to fix it is to send it back to the supplier, right?

- I'm still wondering what "DRAM Voltage AB" and "DRAM Voltage CD" really mean - the parameter I changed in BIOS is "DRAM Voltage CHC, CHD", and I'm not entirely sure if this changes applies to both DRAM Voltages AB and CD (nomenclature is a bit confused for me, as the mobo manual does not have a description of this).
