Recently bought a house Compaq 8100 elite, it has a i5 650 with 8gb ram. Please don't judge my purchase I got everything for 185 Euro and surprisingly really fast. My question is can I upgrade the cpu to a xeon x3480?(the gf bought it for me as a Christmas present) Or would I have to buy a new lga1156 socket motherboard?

I plan on sticking with the lga1156 socket CPUs as they are quiet reliable and cheaply replaced. I know it's first gen and I'd be better off getting a 2nd gen or 3rd gen CPU as they are better for gaming.

Also what would be the best GPU for this CPU?

Have very little money so if I need a new motherboard it would have to be around 80 Euro and you around or under 100. All info helps thanks guys and galls.

Well as I am typing this on a Compaq 8100 I have some experience in the field.
With these types of pre-bulits they use a a type of motherboard that is not compatible with most power supplys so unless you want to build a whole new PC you have to stay inside the confines of your PSU luckily for you this Computer comes with a 320watt PSU meaning that you should not have to replace anything. Also not to worry the x3480 should be compatible with the stock motherboard.
So uninstall your CPU cooler and carefully switch out your CPU's and reinstall your cooler and you should be good to go.

Best compatible GPU: GTX 1050ti
Best GPU without bottleneck: GTX 1050ti
Best GPU price to performance without bottleneck: GTX 1050ti

Well I finally have my system put together, I couldn't afford a 1050ti so I went with the gt 1030 and as my screens native resolution is 1024p and not 1080p I'm getting really good frames on most games (I can play battlefield 1 on ultra avg 33 fps rarely drops below 29 fps) the x3480 is quiet and amazing CPU as it's very fast and powerful, all in all I'm very happy with this build and it's very budget oriented and I expect way better preformance once I have my SSD installed with a brand new gt 1050ti which I hope to afford soon.
