Games are crashing.

Just built my first PC, along with a buddy. we both have the same GPU (MSI GEFORCE GTX 160 Gaming x 6GB) and we are both experiencing constant game crashes. The crashes occur consistently and after a couple of minutes into launch of a game.

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600x
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Gaming X
MOBO: Asus ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x4GB)
SSD: Samsung V-NAND 850 EVO
AIO: Corsair H100i V2
PSU: EVGA supernova NEX650G 650 watt gold power supply
Operating System: Windows 10 x64 bit.

Thanks in advance.

It seems to also crash when I exit the actual game app.

These are the temps i have using the Corsair Link, when doing nothing

MB TEMP: 40 C
MB TEMP: 34 C
MB TEMP: 30 C
CPU PACKAGE: 26 C
HDD/SSD: 35 C
GPU TEMP: 41 C
H100i V2: 31.1 C

There is not black screen or blue screen. The only game I have is Fortnite, and when it crashes, a window pops up saying that the unreal engine or w/e crashes and gives me the option to send the information to Epic.

With the Corsair Link app, I have the options to run "Quiet" "Balanced" "Performance"

By default it was on balanced, so I wanted to see what would happen if I clicked on performance. I noticed that my fans sped up and also the fans on my GPU started as well.

Since doing this, Fortnite has not crashed. The reason Fortnite is the only game I have is because its free, and my buddy who has the same gpu has been experiencing the same crashing on all his games. So I have been using fortnite to see if it happens to me, which it did, so I didn't bother buying any other games if its gonna crash.
Update: Back to crashing again.

Your temps are fine, upping the cooling won't help you with a software problem.

Are you both running the same driver or latest driver? Try using DDU in safe mode and reinstalling the newest (or if your drivers are newest, try an older version).

I have used DDU to uninstall and have done a clean install. Still crashes.

We both also have the same RAM. Corsair DDR4 3000MHz. (2x4GB).

When looking in my BIOS I do see that thy ram is at 2133MHz and not 3000MHz as its rated to be.

My friend has discovered that with one RAM stick removed, he didn't experience any crashing. I have yet to try this, will update if anything changes.

How about when you are doing something. play a game then alt tab and see how the temps are. Get MSI Afterburner, or something that has a graph, and max temp display. CoreTemp would work for the CPU temps.

Idle temperatures are not something you need to rely upon.

Try updating your BIOS. If that doesn't help, try manually setting the RAM to the next lowest supported speed by your motherboard which is 2933MHz. Make sure to do it in BIOS and do not try the in-Windows tool or you have higher risk of serious issues. Also make sure your RAM is in the right slots, referring to the motherboard manual if needed. The RAM may be the issue (or the motherboard BIOS rather).

I set my RAM speed to 2933MHz manually and saved and restarted. This causes the PC to turn off and on unitl it posted in safe mode for me to change the settings back. According to the MOBO manual, if you have two sticks of RAM to have the seperated. so like this (empty) (RAM) (empty) (RAM). The mobo has four slots for RAM.

The first thing i did when i finished building the PC is to update the BIOS via flashdrive. Should i try to update again? and maybe try updating through the internet instead of USB?

empty) (RAM) (empty) (RAM) is a correct RAM configuration for your motherboard into slots A2 and B2 (A1 being closest to the CPU). The RAM clocking down to 2133MHz seems like a BIOS bug that has been experienced by many owners of the Asus ROG STRIX B350-F. It actually seems like a very problematic motherboard for many users. Some have had to manually set their voltages and timings to get to higher frequencies. It is very unfortunate as Ryzen reacts badly to slow RAM. One last resort recommendation would be to return the motherboard and pick a different model if the BIOS update doesn't help. If the RAM is automatically going down to 2133MHz out of the box that is an issue with the motherboard.

This may not be the cause of the crashing issues but it is one serious issue with the system that could explain others.

BIOS updates are best done only with a flash drive inside the BIOS settings, never inside Windows as failure during this update can render the board no longer operable. The latest BIOS version is 3401 dated 2017/12/11. If there is some way to update online through the BIOS I would still be cautious and use a copy of the newest BIOS downloaded on to the flash drive.

I currently have that BIOS. Should I flash my bios via usb again?

I played with the bios and was able to set my RAM to 2800MHz with DOCP, setting it to 2933MHz would just have the PC reboot constantly until error appeared forcing the ram to go to 2133MHz. Games seem to still crash.

Thank you so far for helping me along, I am new to this so i really appreciate your input!

Seems that the ram I have is incompatible for Ryzen and my motherboard. Blinded by the deal I got them for, I forgot to check for this.

I would like to get G.SKILL Flare X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) AMD X370 / B350 Memory (Desktop Memory) Model F4-3200C14D-16GFX. although it is not on the QVL list for my MOBO, do you think this will work?

I've checked the motherboard specs again and now see that it only supports 2666/ 2400/ 2133MHz natively, or 3200MHz/2933MHz in overclock. Have you tried manually setting the RAM to 2666MHz or 2400MHz? If the RAM is too fast for the board it should down-clock it automatically but to 2666MHz not 2133MHz unless perhaps the board sees that as more stable.

The motherboard should accept 3200MHz (with the help of XMP) DDR4 RAM you have selected although the board says anything that isn't 2666/2400/2133 requires overclock profiles or XMP. I believe it would work but I would try getting your current RAM working first. If anything I would blame the motherboard instead of the RAM for this issue you are having.

The RAM that i currently have is not compatible for ryzen ( http://www.corsair.com/en-us/landing/ryzen ) and its only rated for 2133Mhz for my MOBO.

The RAM I have CMK8GX4M2B300C15.

I decided to talk to asus and picked out the CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 which is supported by both Ryzen and MOBO, and and with the DOCP settings should run at 2933MHz.

I have seen a video with Tech deals that showed 2666 vs 3200 MHz RAM Speed. So 2666 would be fine if 2933 doesnt work out for whatever reason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOWx5LH4uBo

If this doesn't fix the problem, then i will certainly look into the motherboard.

I will get them in a couple of days, so i will update if anything changes.
