I have an Optiplex 380 it had 2 1gb RAM sticks I tried upgrading it to 2 4gb RAM sticks but then the computer wouldn't boot up instead making 7 long beeps I put the old ram back in and upgraded the BIOS from AO1 to AO7 and the problem persisted then after reading online I downgraded to AO6 and again it wouldn't work. I have a 64 bit computer that is supposed to be able to max at 8gb. Mixing old and new RAM hasn't worked. Is there any advice I can get to make this computer work with the upgraded RAM?

The RAM has to be 512x64 "low density" RAM. They will have chips on both sides. I'm running 8GB DDR3 1333 in my Opti 380 right now. Also non ECC, non Parity etc. Cheap surplus server RAM won't work. 256x128 would be a high density 4GB module and the BIOS can't read it. officially it supports only 4GB RAM. But if you do it right it works.
Here is Crucials Memory Finder for that.

You will notice the 512X64 in the description.

I currently have two Patriot 4gb ddr3 1333MHz, 240 pin Non ECC RAM sticks I don't know if it's 512x64 though and am unsure how to check otherwise they seem as if they should work
