I'm increasing storage on a couple systems in a recording studio, where you don't want too much ambient noise. I've been reading reviews, with 'noise' in mind, but they're often confusing; one review will claim that a drive is silent, the next will claim that it's a lawn-mower.
Current drives are HGST 4TB and WD Black 3TB and 2TB, and I haven't had noise problems. Was considering WD Gold, given the reliability (2.5 million hour MTBF?) and 5 year warranty, but again, that's one of the drives with mixed reviews.
Is there any general wisdom about this?
