I have an 7700k and a corsair H115i. I'm not overclocking, but recently my CPU has been running at over 90 deg C while idle. I checked the to make sure that the copper plate was making contact with the CPU and it is. I built this thing about 4 months ago so the paste can't be old and there is barely any dust in the system. I read some stuff about 7700ks overheating due to overclocking and just running hot in general, but not above 90 deg C hot. Before my CPU would run at about 30 deg C while idle.

Solution
Well it is deliberately the cooler. The CPU is far too hot, I don't even recommend running the PC until the cooler is sorted out. Paste doesn't need to be replaced once its installed especially not after 4 months. A few things to make sure of:

- Cooler plugged into the CPU fan header on the motherboard? If not it doesn't work properly.
- Do you feel the pump running or coolant flowing?
- Did you use just a small pea sized dot or vertical line on paste? Too much paste acts as an insulator?
- Does the radiator feel hot?
- Do you have another cooler you can try?

My instintive idea is that if this is happening all the sudden and your temps were fine until just now the cooler has stuck on an air bubble or has failed. This is common in all...

The radiator does not feel hot, both the fans are running fine, and the thermal paste was came pre-applied. I guess there is an air bubble. Thank you for your quick response.

Is there a way to get an air bubble out or do I just have to get a new CPU cooler?

It is a sealed unit so the only thing you can do is give it a little shake. It sounds like the pump isn't working if the rad is cold and nothing is flowing. Sometimes the pumps quit in these things. I'd also try going into BIOS and making sure your CPU fan is manually set to max just as a last ditch effort and see if your BIOS temps are also high to eliminate software issues as the cause.

I recommend if you aren't overclocking just get a decent air cooler. The all in one liquid coolers aren't worth it IMO. They just like to die, it's like a lottery. Temps that high are hard on the CPU and if you get a failure and go up to 100C you are looking as possible damage to the CPU.
