Hello Fellow Humans,
I recently purchased a monitor to go along with my PC. I come from working/gaming on a 60 inch 4k TV. I have a pre-built PC from Cyberpower that comes with a
AMD RX 580
AMD Ryzen 5 1400 .

I purchased the two following monitors to compare for productivity and gaming.
HP Omen 25 LED Monitor, 144hz. 1ms response time w/ Freesync
&
LG 29" Ultrawide IPS Monitor, 75hz w/ Freesync, 5ms Response time

Now I expected to be getting around 120 FPS on the HP Omen while gaming. I have tested it on Fortnite BattleRoyale and am averaging around 70 FPS. Is that to be expected from my graphics card? or Is there settings I can adjust? I'm hoping to be able to get higher FPS because then I wouldn't see a point in having a 144hz monitor. Any knowledge would be helpful!

i think youre expectations are too high. The 580 is a good card, but really it's 1080p 60hz, ultra settings. The card is similar in performance to my own. You can expect to get between 50-80 fps on demanding games at 1080p. For 144hz, or even 120hz you need more GPU grunt.

You may be able to get a few extra fps, by dialing back in game settings. Things like SSAO, Post processing, AA/AF. That will increase your FPS, but not enough to run smoothly on higher refresh monitors.

GTX1060/RX580 > 1080p 60hz
GTX1070/Vega 56 > 1080p 144hz/1440p @60hz

You will get about 120fps while gaming ,some of the time ,just not on games like fortnite or pubg which run like dogs on even more powerful systems.
Theyre dreadfully optimised.

You can follow that video tut to increase fps - it does work upto a point but I still wouldnt expect 120fps constant at all.

The ryzen 1400 really wants a bit of overclocking to push a 144htz monitor to any great extent.
The issue there is if its a cyberpower prebuild theres a good chance it has an a320 board in which doesn't support overclocking.

If I was going to keep one of those screens personally ,bearing in mind productivity as well as gaming , it would be the LG ultrawide.
Assuming its 2560 x 1080 res the 580 will mamage 75htz on just about anything at that res.

Appreciate the feedback Matt. Yeah, I did some testing with Overwatch and I was getting 110-120 fps on Ultra. I'm leaning towards the Ultrawide since 75hz seems pretty good to play FPS games. I will be trying PUBG on both monitors shortly.
I'll definetly check out the video. Thanks!
