I'm having issue with my PC

So first of all, let's thank this stupid site for blocking me an access to my very own profile and for having to create another one, neat. OK, I'm done with crying, no more whining.

So I'm not sure whether this particular question should be put in 'Storage' category, but whatever, I'd say HDD might cause the problems I've been recently experiencing, but on the other hand, I'm not a techy or an expert, so who knows.

To be honest, it will take a while till I get to the conclusion, so you might want to skim this part :D

My computer is a mystery to me. Since I got it, 4-5 years ago, I've reinstalled the OS at least 10 - times (usually I formatted all partitions, and executed a clean install), there was always some kind of issue and this was an easy solution for me, to start from scratch.

The last time I did this was actually pretty recently, like 3 weeks ago. I was having an issue, pretty similar to what I've just started experiencing, simply said my PC froze one day. And since that minute my PC was behaving really weird. It took about 10 mins to boot up, compared to barely half a minute normally; if I wanted to let's say run Chrome, it took another few minutes to open etc. Then after a while approx. 20 mins, it started to behave normally.

So that was the reason for reinstalling windows, to figure out whether the problem was cause by hardware or software. At the first I thought software was the one to blame for, at the end, I had no problems with PC afterwards. However I noticed that in a game, I don't think it is really necessary to say which one, or is it? Who gives, it was Rocket League. So I noticed that I got these, I don't even know how to call them, I don't think they were FPS drops, terminology isn't key anyway, so I got these 'lags', when FPS dropped to 0 for split of a second when I either was joining to the game or someone joined/left'. But while playing, the game was smooth, FPS were over 100 FPS with all settings set to highest possible option, there was no problem at all, so I decided to let it go.

Today, unfortunately, it was unbearable. I couldn't join to almost every game. Everything what I clicked in game in menu went with FPS drop to 0 for split of a second. Surprisingly enough, the game itself, like playing against someone online, when I was finally connected to the server was flawless.

I decided to restart my PC, perhaps it might be better then, and I got the very similar problem which I've already described in 5th paragraph.

I was really sad I couldn't do shit on my PC, especially when it's holiday and I have finally a few days off. Half an hour later, I booted up the PC once again to try to figure out what's going on, to at least give you an picture of this issue and now PC works pretty fine compared to what it was doing half an hour ago when it was impossible to even open Windows Explorer in 1 minute from the actual click. The PC itself still feels clunky, it still isn't working on its full potential, I can see the delay, but as I said before, this is hell of a improvement. The thing is I haven't done a thing, so we might be talking about overheating and such, but as I previously mentioned, I'm not an IT expert, so I've got no idea.

Thank you for your patience, and if you don't have time or you got lost in my 'essay' here you go:

TL;DR

- My PC is a bad boy.
- In-game FPS drop to 0 when I'm joining to the server or someone joines/leaves, but the gameplay
itself is flawless.
- Sometimes it takes my PC a few minutes to boot up and there's a few minutes long delay for
about 20 minutes, then it starts to behave normally.
- I assume HDD might be behind this, but TBH I've got no clue.

Unfortunately, just because the OS was just reinstalled that does not eliminate the need for disk cleanup.

All too easy for some buggy app or conflicts to trash the drive or otherwise make some resource requirement impossible.

Take another look at the charts. However, before doing so, stop any tasks that are not immediately necessary: e.g., backups, updates, virus scans.

Go minimal (bare bones) and try again.

Yes the charts can be overwhelming. Focus on one chart at time and keep doing things until you get a sense of what information the chart is conveying.

Watch the charts for 10 to 15 minutes. Observe what, if anything, is happening.

Leave the chart window open - just move to one side and size to watch.

Then connect to the...

Yes - the problems could be due to any number of reasons.

You have some diagnostic tools available:

1) Windows 10? If so, use "WIN" + "I" > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Run the various troubleshooters one at a time. The troubleshooters may find and fix some things.

2) You can use Task Manager, Resource Monitor and Performance Monitor to observe what your PC is doing. Performance Monitor is the least "intuitive" to use so just leave that alone unless really stuck or needed.

Open the tool, let the system stabilize while you watch. Slide the window to one side. Then work or game as normal. Watch for changes when "lags" occur.

3) You can open the Event Viewer logs to look for warnings or error codes that occur just before or at the time of the problems. Look for consistent patterns or correlations.

For help with Event Viewer read the following article from within this forum:

Have you ever done any maintenance on your computer: e.g. Disk cleanup? Uninstalled old applications, kept drivers up-to-date, etc..

Key is for you to narrow things down...

Soooo, first of all, as I already said in my previous post, I've reinstalled my OS, Windows 10, recently by performing clean install, so I wiped everything out of HDD. So there shouldn't be a reason to disk cleanup, should it?

However I've got problems with keeping my drivers up-to-date, because I don't know which all drivers should be updated. At first, I was keeping the basic stuff updated, like Nvidia's drivers for VGA - GeForce Experience, etc, but when I wanted to download some drivers for CPU, there was no updates necessary. I was pretty confused, as I always, when I reinstalled OS, had to update Intel drivers etc. Now as I'm writing this down, I realized they might have been part of Windows update, who knows, but I decided to download an app which keeps an eye on all possible drivers. It's called Driver Easy and there I found out a lot of drivers for chipset or buses were not updated, even though Intel's official site says otherwise. So in short, I might not have everything updated, as that app wants me to buy premium and I tried to crack it, YAAAAAR, and still even while having premium, it doesn't really work.

Now to the part you were referring to as an possible solution. So, troubleshooting in Windows settings didn't help at all. However I tried to observe what happens in Resource Monitor when the problem occurs and I didn't really understand all the charts, so I might be missing some important information, but when I, for example, tried to connect to server, or even open a menu while in-game, game more-less freezes, and in Resource Monitor, in CPU section, it says the game, Rocket League, doesn't respond. After a while it finally loads and the game works flawlessly once again.

I could possibly try to record this, the Resource Monitor itself, when the problem occurs, if necessary.

I hope we're heading towards solution or at least we've narrowed things down. And I can still bring it to some IT center where they will repair it for me.
