I'm fixing up all ol' doober, cleaning out, adding Peppermint 8 Linux etc.

Should I do the jumper pin thing, and clear the CMOS in order to get the BIOS back to original default before i install the new OS?

Windows XP was on it before; factory jobber from Dell.

Solution
you go to dell support, plug in the service tag number, go to downloads and run the most recent bios file for the unit. It's listed under BIOS.

If you're still concerned about clearing the BIOS, clear it, can't help, can't hurt, it's a neutral action like waving at yourself in the mirror.

You update the BIOS by following the exact instructions the motherboard manufacturer gives you.
No deviations.
