It sounds like you need a new battery.

Most batteries are built with a counter inside of them, as a means to determine when they are about to fail. Newer batteries rarely have a condition known as memory, where it degrades the charging capacity if the thing is routinely partially charged. It used to be a bigger concern a decade ago. As a way to prevent battery fires in phones and laptops, there is a set number of times you can charge the battery before a chip inside it begins to flag it as being unusable. It's a guess to stop battery use before the internal components fail.

I tell my family that each charge is equivalent to a click charge on a laser printer cartridge. With HP, your toner cartridge could be 75% full, but if the software says you've used X number of impressions, it flags the cartridge as empty (unless you have an HP Corporate Service Account). Whether you dump the toner on a whole page, or print just one pixel, it counts as a click charge.

The point I'm getting at is, when you charge your battery, do it until it's full and only charge it when it is low. My sister burned through an HP laptop battery in 7-9 months, because she would carry it from room to room and plug it in everywhere she went. Each plug in counted towards the recharge counter--even if it was for 10 minutes of charging. I don't know how often you charge your phone, or if you have a charge mat you place it on, but charging should be full cycles.

If you are in a pinch, there are hacks that talk about freezing a battery, but that just seems like a hack, and is subject to its own set of risks when doing it. Just do a Google search. I don't know if you battery is easily removed or requires servicing to remove it.
