Which is more future proof for gaming? i5 7600k / Ryzen 5 1600

As far as I know current games can't make use of all the cores of the Ryzen, will it change in the future and will it make Ryzen stay longer if I prefer it today? Considering I don't mind overclocking even the i5-7600k, at least for a long time like 4 years.

Also what is the current situation? Which one is better right now? i5-7600k can lead by around 10 frames in games as I know, what do you think?

7th gen Intel has been superseded by 8th gen while Ryzen will be developed during at least next couple of years on same platform so it should be current longer.
So best comparison would be i5 8600k vs. Ryzen 1600x/Ryzen2 2600x on a good MB and fast RAM. One of those two would be more future proof.

I'd like to go with i5-8400 but it's not an option for me since it requires new motherboards and they're pretty expensive. When you consider the price of CPU + motherboard, Ryzen and i5 7600k are a better choice.

People have been talking about more cores and gaming for awhile now. If it went the way people thought the 8350 would be a much better gaming CPU than it is. Just having more cores doesn't mean "eventually" you are going to faster than a CPU with less cores. Ryzen brought AMD up a LOT in IPC and they are only just behind Intel in IPC and gaming. They have several tweaks for them over the next 2-3yrs which will help a lot.

For pure gaming and gaming only, the 7600K is the better chip. It can still OC, and it's IPC is better than R1600. It can also clock MUCH higher seeing as Ryzen is only good to around 4GHz. If you only care about gaming I would stick with the 7600K. That being said, I can see value in the 1600. More so if you do other things while gaming like streaming. Some streaming methods use CPU cycles and in those cases the R1600 can provide a better experience. I wouldn't count on the 1600 passing the 7600K soon. It will happen eventually, but seeing as the 8350 isn't worth gaming on I don't see it happening and us still caring.

Yeah thats an important point, I currently have to say goodbye to my good old i5-4690k, because I switch to mini ITX from ATX. But why I probably will choose Ryzen is because I hope games will make use of it's cores in the future because I rarely upgrade, once in maybe 4 years at least. I still have 4 gigs of ram for example lol. So my next build will probably have a new motherboard anyway.

My current PC not bad with z97 and 4690k but I have to switch to a mini ITX so I will have to buy a new motherboard anyway. I'm planning to just sell my old one.

Oh, my bad. I thought you said you were going from ITX to ATX. You should be able to just move the board over. But you are going TO ITX, and your ATX board won't fit.

You might let the board make the choice for you. If there aren't any good ITX boards for one of those chips, just get the other. They game very similar with the 7600 just ahead. But if one has a junk board and the other is very feature rich, get the better board.
