So about 2 days ago I built my first PC. The OS of choice is Linux Mint. I had just installed Linux mint on the HDD since beforehand I had to run it off of a live stick. Yesterday the HDD was working perfectly fine, I had installed discord, steam and a few games, there were no problems at all. I booted up my PC today and i got a message saying ""please insert bootable media into the selected drive, or select another drive to boot from". So the first thing that came to mind was to reboot the PC to see if this made any difference, and unfortunately it didn't. I went into the BIOS and it recognised the Live stick I plugged in but the HDD was no where to be seen. A few people have said that the drive is dead. Im going to assume the worst for now, but wanted to post this just to get other people's opinions on it

Solution
with the new cable see if the drive is moving. if there no movement from the drive make sure the power cable and power port on the sata drive not snapped off.
