Which version of boot loader to KEEP and which 1 to DELETE?
Hi there -
Have just RE-installed a valid version of XP Home on this olde Sony VAIO Desktop.
ALL the updates installed. Yea - A L L of them.
THIS COMPUTER WORKS PERFECTLY - BUT -
When it boots there are 2 lines of text on the screen as shown below:
Microsoft Windows XP Home
Microsoft Windows XP Home
The top line is highlighted and the timer is counting down 15 seconds.
Clicking the enter key will boot to the Desktop and computer runs PERFECTLY in every way.
Touching the down arrow selects the 2nd line. Clicking "Enter" gives an error message.

In "System Properties" / "Advanced" tab / "Startup and Recovery" / there are TWO (2) versions of the boot loader as shown below:

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Question:
Which of the 2 lines of settings text above corresponds to 1st line of text that boots Windows @ the login screen?

Thanks for your attention and direction.

I would say that the option that works is the first line (that says partition(1)). But you can check that by going to the partition manager and seing in witch partition is windows. Have in mind that the number of the partitions start at 0 and not 1.
