hi guys,
Im looking to upgrade my pc. I built this PC around 2 years ago and it wasnt top end then, im wondering what i should do in terms of cpu for gaming and faster general use. Im looking to play PUBG and GTA at reasonable settings. my pc is quite slow as is and im looking to speed things up.
cpu: AMD A8-6600k APU 3.90 GHz
mobo: asus crossblade ranger fm2+
GPU: GTX 1060 3gb (new)
case: Corsair 500R
RAM: some shitty 8gb
HDD: seagate barracuda 1tb

thanks :)

An i7 is a bit costly and if you get a Z370 you can get an i5-8XXX that is faster than a previous generation i7-77XX. You can get a Z370 lga 1151-V2 i3 IMO as it is just as good if not better than a previous gen i5. If you go with a last gen 1151 with a z270 or z170 board (or other 100 or 200 series board for LGA 1151) go with an i5-6XXX or i5-7XXX. An AMD AM4 with a Ryzen 3 or 5 would also be a huge performance upgrade as well.

defintely start with your RAM. cheapest and most effective boost to your current system. at least get a DDR3 2400/2666 2x8GB memory kit. and dont forget to go to your BIOS to activate your AMP/XMP profile for your RAM. you will notice how fast your PC will get right away from your current 1 stick 8GB.

you can also get a SSD drive to replace your system HDD (just get a Corsair 256GB if youre on a budget). and move your existing seagate HDD as your 2nd drive for (games/movies) what not. this will improve your windows and app loading speeds by 40% ish if not better.

Your system is very cpu bound. I would say get a new cpu and board. No point dumping money into DDR3 for your old system at this point IMO. Bite the bullet and get an Intel 1151 or AMD AM4 board, cpu and DDR4 RAM. Your FM2+ is not worth upgrading the CPU. And a ram upgrade is not going to do much to help with the utter lack of cpu power but would help in some in some games and programs that are RAM intensive. A SSD will help things load faster on your current system but the cpu is still going to make gaming suck.

thanks utroz and marksavio do you think i should get an i5 or i7? and which board would you recommend for some future proofing? I was looking at the Ryzen 1700 or 1600X. It exceeded all the games im wanting to play.
