Hey guys,

My front case USBs were not working and I noticed the connector was loose so I turned my PC off without flipping the PSU off; thinking it'll be very quick, plugged it back in, and removed a HDD that had crashed for a while. When I did that, my PC suddenly turned on for 2 seconds. It kinda startled me so I pulled my hand away quickly, then it turned back off again after 2-3 seconds. I thought nothing of it, and flipped the PSU off so it wouldn't happen again before double checking that everything was put together properly.

After I put my case back together, my PC won't turn back on! No beep, no noise, no fans, nothing. It's not getting any power. There's no light on the motherboard at all, I believe there's usually a green light. Did I fry the mobo or something?

It's a relatively new PC...just old HDD's. Do you guys think it might be the psu? I'm going to do the psu paper clip test but I'm actually having a hard time finding a paper clip. The mobo and PSU look fine to my eyes...but I'm not too sure. I don't smell anything burning either...Is there any way to test the mobo?

Motherboard:
MSI Z270-A PRO

PSU:
EVGA GOLD SUPERNOVA 750 G2

Thanks.

Solution

Check the cables first from the PSU to the mother board try changing it if you can ! before doing anything try all the tests possibles ! lets just hope it has nothing to do with The Mobo !

Hi, Try clearing the CMOS (unplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery for a minute). Keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds or so. Then plug the power cord in and start the board.
If still no go, and paper clip test passed, then it looks like a dead motherboard.

Thanks, gonna try that now.

My PC/Mobo is less than half a year old, anything MSI can do about this? What do you guys think happened =X? I'm a bit mind blasted by this, never happened to me before.

Paperclip test passed -- Looks like motherboard is dead... But does anyone know what happened? This PC is only about 4 months old, and I was pretty happy with the motherboard.

Forgot to update this thread lol. Definitely messed up the Mobo... lesson learned to switch the PSU completely off and unplug it, even if it is something small and quick (like unplugging an HDD). Purchased a new Mobo and everything has been running smoothly.

Thanks all for your help!
