I have an i5-7600K and need to swap it into a new motherboard (Asus Prime Z270-A). My old motherboard was a MSI Z270-A Pro.

I’ve heard discussions online where I could need to reinstall a new copy of Windows 10 if I did this. All of my other components would be the same. Only a motherboard change would be the difference. Also I will be activating windows 10 onto my online Microsoft account so it will carry over onto the new motherboard.

Would I need to delete the chipset drivers before installing the CPU into the new motherboard? Or leave the old chipsets on there as they are both Z270?

Can somebody help and give me advice. Many thanks.

You do not have to delete drivers. Windows may include the Intel LAN drivers, but you'll need to install the Audio drivers. You'd have to do it and a lot more if you reinstalled Windows.

So I can just transfer the CPU from old motherboard into the new one no problem? Will windows automatically repair and adjust drivers upon boot operation? Or will I have to delete drivers from old motherboard first.
