Hello,

I'm currently running the following set up:

CPU: i5 2500k Quad Core
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 ATX
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Hawk
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
64GB Crucial SSD
256 GB Samsung SSD (bought recently)
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus
Power Supply: Antec HCG-750W
Dual monitors: 23" LG Flatron IPS231 (for games) / 22" HP 1680 x 1050 w2207h (for browsing)
Tower: Corsair 600T

--USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming (Path of Exile, Starcraft 2), movies and browsing.

--PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: MemoryExpress.com, Newegg.ca, Amazon.ca. Country: Canada

--PARTS PREFERENCES: Preference for GPU is Nvidia.
I have no preferences.

--OVERCLOCKING: No overclocking, SLI.

--MONITOR RESOLUTION: My monitor resolution 1920x1080 and 1680 x 1050 (May buy another 1080 monitor for browsing)

--ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

My hopes are to make my gaming experience on Path of Exile a lot better than it is now. Therefore, I'm hoping that by upgrading my GPU will give me such improvement. With my current setup, Im 60fps when idle in game but as soon as i start to play, it fluctuates between 60-30fps. I've ran the afterburner with the game open, and it uses about 80-85% when idle. Temperature gets up to about 87 degress C.

Initially I was looking at the EVGA 1060 6gb SC. However, I've heard mixed reviews on it. Some say it has over heating issues so I am a little hesitant on purchasing it. Hence why I am making a post asking for some guidance.

Would the EVGA 1060 6GB SC be a good fit for my build or should I look at other 1060 cards? Such as the MSI ones?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and good day.

Solution
Suit yourself but overclocking, especially with a 2500k is so easy a caveman can do it. Just watch a youtube video. You will get a performance boost with no danger to the cpu or your system. Or don't :)
If you get a pretty good overclock on the cpu (4.7 if you can) you should be good with a 1060 6gb. I’m doing quite well with a barely newer cpu and a 1070.

Edit: not saying if you cant get a decent overclock to not get a good gpu. Just saying every bit of clock helps.

Hey, thanks for the comment. I'm not too knowledgeable with overclocking so I rather not attempt it myself. I've also heard that path of exile does not use too much CPU so I dont think it would matter that much? Not sure, correct me if i'm wrong.

Ty!

Doesn't make much sense to pay extra for an unlocked k model if you don't plan to overclock.
