What happens if I put a overclockable CPU on a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking?

So I put a AMD Ryzen 5 1500x on a Asus B350-Plus. Now, my monitor doesn't show anything when I try to boot the PC. Is this due to the CPU? I thought, that it won't allow me to boost the CPU but that'd be about it. Any help?

i don't know the situation with AMD CPUs. But with Intel, unlocked CPUs can be overclocked in Windows. Since it's done from the OS I don't see why it couldn't work with AMD also. That doesn't mean it HAS been done.
The method is to use Throttlestop software which is designed to undervolt, and underclock laptops for battery life, and use it's Voltage and multiplier controls with an unlocked CPU to overclock. The Dell Dimension E520 in my sig. was overclocked using this method. The link is at the bottom.
You might ask this question at Notebook Review, or ThechPowerUp in the Throttlestop threads. if it's been done with AMD they would know.

What are the specs of the system you put the chip into?

To answer the title of your post the only thing that happens is that you can’t overclock it. The chip will run at stock speeds.

As far as why your PC isn’t booting correctly it could be due to the CPU. We need more information on the specs of your system and where you have the monitor plugged into. What should happen is that your PC should boot up and probably give you a message reading something like “New CPU Detected” and it may prompt you to enter the BIOS to set it up.

Try resetting your CMOS and reseating that CPU. If nothing happens after that then throw in whatever other processor you had before and download the most up to date BIOS and drivers.
